Horse Racing Betting

Horse Racing is a sport that is vital to the Betting Industry many race tracks across the country holding meetings each day with punters having a bet both at the track and online. With the advent of dedicated Horse Racing Channels showing every race meeting in the UK that has further boosted the industry with punters able to get live access to any race they bet on.

Horse Racing is the sport that is closely associated with Sports Betting and we are going to be having a look at some of the ways punters can have a bet on a horse race. We will also take a closer look at some of the big races throughout the year that attract the most money around the world.

Horse Racing Bets

When it comes to Horse Racing the most popular bet is on the Outright Winner Market which is where the punter bets on the horse that they think will win the race outright. Alternatively, punters can bet on a horse Each/Way which increases the chances of making money but reduces potential winnings. An Each/Way bet is a bet that pays out if your horse finishes in the top three or four but the major bookies will only offer a 1/4 or a 1/5 of the odds if you horse come in one of the places.

Each/Way Bets are good for the more cautious punters as it will offer more chance of a return or simply it can be a lucrative bet if there is a horse with reasonably long odds that you expect to run a good race. On an Each/Way bet the bookie will pay out on four places on handicap races with over 16 runners involved, for smaller fields only the top three would see a pay out.

Ante-Post Betting is becoming increasingly popular in Racing as once again potentially it can prove more lucrative for the shrewd punter. Ante-Post Betting gives punters the chance to have a bet on a particular race in advance of the race day and on occasions months in advance. This is normally used for the big races of the season and can offer big returns if the punter gets it right as the odds may be longer in Ante-Post than on the day of the race.

This can of course be a risk however as a horse potentially may lose form between the time you make your bet and the race which means the horse may have longer odds closer to the race. Ante-Post Betting is a higher risk - higher reward strategy that is normally used by slightly more experienced punters.

The biggest single race in terms of Betting in the Horse Racing Calender is of course the Grand National Betting which is the worlds biggest steeplechase. It is the one day of the year when people who don't normally have a bet will have £2.50 Each/Way on a horse.
